| If you
paid for a product or service and have good reason to want your money back
but can't get it, there're lots of places where you can file a complaint but
the best thing to do is to file a dispute with your credit card company. You
can file complaints with the Better Business Bureau, Florida Division of
Consumer Affairs, Hillsborough or Pinellas County Consumer Protection,
Florida Attorney General's Office etc. but none have enforcement power to
get your money back. Federal law, The Fair Credit Billing Act,
provides for the following:
1. If you file a dispute with your credit card company
within 60 days of the purchase
2. The credit card company must give you a temporary
credit and investigate the dispute.
3. The dispute must be resolved by the credit card company
within 2 billing cycles of filing the dispute not to exceed 90 days.
4. If the credit card company supports your complaint and
the seller doesn't cooperate, they can do a unilateral chargeback and you
don't have to pay anything.
5. If you lose the dispute, you have to pay the disputed
amount plus the interest on it. You can always get a lawyer and sue but the
credit card dispute process is painless and it really works. |
