It’s that time of year again. We retirees must select our medical plan for the coming year. This is an important decision that can have significant financial and stress related impacts on each of us. We all recognize that there is no one perfect answer for everyone, but many of us feel that we could benefit by sharing our thoughts and analysis of the plan options. The ITBRC will host a set of roundtables for those who are interested in getting together and discussing the plan options. It will be a chance to share our questions and answers with other members of the retiree community. Those who attended previous sessions felt that it was of great value to them and well worth their time. Please join us on Wednesday November 12th at the IBM Harbor View/Rocky Point facility. The more attendees, the better the discussion.
We have decided to change the format this year for those who are Medicare eligible. There will be two sessions for the Medicare eligible, one for those where both spouses are Medicare Eligible and one for the case where the IBM retiree is Medicare eligible but the spouse is not. The plan choices can be very complex for these groups and in recognition of this each of these sessions will begin with a presentation on the basic structure of the plan and the alternatives that are offered. Since we have been unable to obtain an IBM presenter for this part of the program, club members have agreed to put together the seminar. This seminar will be followed by a roundtable to allow for further questions and discussion.
Since the non-Medicare eligible plan has traditionally been much simpler we will just offer a roundtable for this plan.
The schedule for these sessions is as follows:
| Both spouses Medicare eligible: | 10:30am to 12 noon |
| Retiree Medicare eligible, spouse not Medicare eligible: | 12:30pm to 2pm |
| Retiree non-Medicare eligible: | 12:30pm to 2pm |
Please sign up for your choice of sessions (click here for instructions) or call Harry Schaffhauser at 813 265-3846. Be sure to indicate which session you will be attending so that we can configure the meeting rooms correctly. Include your name and a phone number in case we need to contact you for any changes in the schedule of the program. We are scheduling the sessions based on the anticipated schedule for the medical plan enrollments. The date may have to be changed based on IBM’s schedule for the delivery of packages and close of the enrollment period. Please bring your enrollment package for reference at the program.
